Hoover Dam NV November 23, 2025
Years ago, I discovered this fascinating trail that is rich in history and offers spectacular views of Lake Mead. Although it isn’t directly related to Yerington, it is one of my favorite places to visit when in the Las Vegas area. I highly recommend it as a destination that the entire family will enjoy.
This 4-mile-long trail runs along the original railroad tracks that brought materials to build the Hoover Dam. This easy hike takes you through five tunnels, has rest areas and informative signage. It is part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and is free to the public.
Spring and Fall are my favorite times to visit. RV and camping areas are available nearby. I frequently stay at the Hoover Dam Lodge and Casino. From the Lodge parking lot, there is a trail leading down to the main hiking trail. This is also a great place to see desert bighorn sheep.

The trail ends at the Hoover Dam. To save the walk back, some folks like to arrange for a pick up at the half way point. During your visit be sure to plan time to walk out on the Mike O’Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge for this amazing view of the dam. Parking and access to the bridge walkway that connects Nevada and Arizona is free but your vehicle will need to go through a security check point. No spare propane bottles, firearms or anything potentially explosive!
