October 2, 2025 – Lyon County NV

At today’s Lyon County Board of Commissioners Meeting, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office – Nevada is honored to have presented Investigator Jeremy Tafelmeyer with a Life Saving Medal for his efforts in the following incident:
On August 22, 2025, while traveling on U.S. Highway 50, Investigator Jeremy Tafelmeyer observed heavy black smoke rising from a residence in Silver Springs. Recognizing the imminent danger, he immediately responded and found the residence fully engulfed in flames. Without hesitation and with complete disregard for his own safety, Investigator Tafelmeyer exited his vehicle, notified dispatch, and attempted to reach an occupant trapped inside the burning structure.
Crawling under intense heat and heavy smoke, Investigator Tafelmeyer, with the assistance of a nearby citizen, advanced ten to fifteen feet into the residence where the victim was located. Together, they pulled the incapacitated individual out of the residence through an east doorway, bringing him to safety. Investigator Tafelmeyer then rendered immediate medical assistance, maintaining the victim’s consciousness until paramedics arrived to provide advanced care.
Investigator Tafelmeyer’s courageous actions, quick decision-making, and extraordinary bravery directly resulted in the preservation of human life. For his heroism and selfless dedication to duty, Investigator Jeremy Tafelmeyer is hereby awarded the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Lifesaving Medal.
