City of Yerington News:
Good afternoon Yerington Community,
Before we get into the updates, I’d like to say THANK YOU to our Lyon County Fair & Rodeo volunteers and Lyon County staff. These amazing people work tirelessly to put on these events and I’d like to recognize them for their months and months (even years) of work that culminate in four days of the most wholesome family fun you can imagine. When taking part in these activities it’s hard not to reminisce about our own childhoods and be instantly reminded of the values and sense of community many of us hold dear.

I’d also like to say thank you to our local Lion’s Club for once again lining our Main Street with American flags for the weekend. This is always a welcome addition to the beauty of our historic downtown.
Now for some community updates:
City crew began work in the school zones this week, freshening up crosswalks, repairing potholes, and repainting curbs. This work will continue next week, so if you’re traveling through the area please be considerate of cones directing traffic around the freshly painted areas. We are also adding a crosswalk closer to the YHS main entrance (near Nevada St. & Pearl St.).

This week the City also sought and received funding for street repairs from our Lyon County Regional Transportation Commission (RTC). These funds will help us proceed with repairs on Napa St., Pizen Switch Rd., Leona Ave., Broadway, Center St. & more(including some alleyways). The list is long and we will do our best to complete it in a timely fashion, within budget.
I also wanted to let our community know that we take the quality of our water seriously(as we should). We are constantly monitoring water samples for a multitude of variables. In addition to the standard sampling schedule we are also actively taking part in a lead test with NDEP/EPA in which they recommend 20 samples. To ensure we have a sample representing each area from our water grid we are submitting 24 samples.
Our Mountain View well and Treatment Plant were also both recently marked for random inspection for pesticide compounds by the EPA. I am happy to report that both locations passed the concentration inspections for a wide range of pesticides.
The California Well is anticipated to be online by early September, depending on arrival of some critical components on order. Early reports indicate that the quality of water is well above standard and will be a welcome addition to the current water supply.
If you or anyone in our community have concerns about water I encourage you to call our office. We take concerns seriously and are committed to resolving them to the best of our ability as quickly as possible.
You can reach either myself at (775) 344-0343 or our Public Works Director Paul Shapiro at (775) 364-8895.
We are still searching for two community members to serve on our Room Tax Board. This is a volunteer position for a board that typically meets twice a year (June/December) and makes recommendations to the City Council regarding disbursement of room tax dollars. If you are contemplating getting involved this is a great way to help your community. Please stop by City Hall to submit a letter of interest.
I hope to see you tomorrow at the parade. If not, you can find me at the Fair & Rodeo. Be sure to say hello.

Have a great weekend,
Jerry Bryant
