Community Update from Yerington’s Interim City Manager Jerry Bryant: July 3, 2025

Good afternoon Yerington Community,

I wanted to take a moment and brief you on some happenings within our community.
Our Public Works crew has been hard at work this week preparing Mountain View Park and Main St. for the upcoming 4th of July celebrations. Be sure to check out the improvements made around the perimeter of the new Dog Park for a small example of some of the work done. They will also be making rounds tomorrow during the celebrations to monitor trash levels and cleanliness.

Our Yerington Police Department will be on Main St. tomorrow both for police presence, but also to raise funds for our amazing K-9 program. I encourage you to stop by and say hello and have some fun.

Progress continues to be made with the drilling of our new California Street well, which is critical to the water levels that supply our community. There is plenty of work to do here still, but it is well underway and we hope to have this water supply online by the fall, if not sooner.

We also began prep work on our tennis courts this week, to prepare them for half of the court to be converted into 3 pickle ball courts. We are very excited for this project and thankful to our Lyon County partners for their support on this (and several other) project(s).

We are also working on plans for regular street sweeping to occur in the near future, I hope to release more specific details next week.

I’d also like to mention that myself and the Executive Director of Yerington Main Street Committee (Scott Draper) met with representative Shari Davis of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and discussed positioning Yerington to be eligible for future grants that have direct impact on small business owners. These discussions also include ideas for increasing traffic and local activity in our business districts.
I have also scheduled meetings with our Yerington Chamber of Commerce to explore ideas that position the businesses to capitalize on these developments.

Lastly, I’d like to say that while our focus this week was on prep work for the projects mentioned above, next week, our Public Works will be out in force to clean up as many of the obnoxious weeds as possible. With that said, I’d also like to ask for your help as residents, to help maintain and eliminate the weeds that you can. There is a lot of work to be done, but I am very excited about our future.

Thank you to all of our community members who make this such a great place to be.
If you see a member of our Mason Valley Fireworks Committee, be sure to thank them for what I am certain will be an amazing display tomorrow night.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
