Commissioners Kick Off 2025 by Welcoming Newly Elected Officials

 

Yerington, Nevada – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) began the meeting on Monday, January 6, 2025 by swearing in newly elected officials in a ceremony led by the Honorable Judge John P. Schlegelmilch. The Board appointed Commissioner Scott Keller as the new Chair for 2025. Lyon County officials thanked Commissioner Hockaday for his unwavering commitment to the citizens of Lyon County during his role as Chair for the last two years. In addition, the Board heard presentations and took action on several agenda items.

 

Planning Items

Commissioners approved a request from Miles Minerals to amend the Zoning Map designation from the Title 10 district of RR-3 (Third Rural Residential District (5 acres)) to the Title 15 district of EMU (Employment Mixed-Use) located at 3270 and 3090 Twain Ave. in Silver Springs for two parcels totaling approximately 4.67 acres (APN 018-364-01 and 3018-364-02), PLZ-2024-064.

 

The Board approved a request from Lyon County School District for a Conditional Use

Permit to place an Adult Education modular classroom at the Dayton High School located at 335 Old Dayton Valley Road in Dayton.

 

Board Appointments

Planning Commission – Andrew Merritt with a term ending Dec. 31, 2028 in a vote 3 in support (Keller, Hendrix, Jacobson) and 2 opposed (Cassinelli, Hockaday)

Dayton Regional Advisory Board – Ronald Wyman with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2026.

Mound House Advisory Board – Jeff Trowbridge and John Diffenbaugh with terms expiring Dec. 31, 2026.

Smith Valley Parks and Recreation Advisory Board – Celeste Thornill with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2026.

Central Lyon Parks and Recreation Advisory Board – Thomas Purvis and Danielle Hasbrouch with terms expiring Dec. 31, 2026.

Walker River Weed Control – Brandon Galantuonmini with a term expiring Dec. 31, 2025.

 

The Board also appointed County Commissioners and staff to several Boards, Commissions and Committees for the Calendar year 2025. The full list of appointments will be available with the meeting minutes.

 

Other Board Actions:

  • BLM Comment Letter – Directed staff to draft a comment letter to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for the sale of public lands and underlying mineral estate associated with the Anaconda Copper Mine site.
  • County Health Officer: Approved the appointment of Robin Titus, MD as the Lyon County Health Officer and approved a two-year contract with compensation in the amount of $1,000 per month plus mileage.
  • Human Services: Approved the creation of four temporary Respite Program Assistant positions to be 100% grant-funded through the Department of Health and Human Services,

Administration for Community Living grant award.

  • Utilities Intent to Serve Letter(s): Authorized the Utilities Director to issue an Intent to Serve letter for sewer and water service for the Sage Vista Specific Plan Project PLZX-19-0081.
