FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NOVEMBER 26th, 2024
YERINGTON, NEVADA
The City of Yerington, pursuant to its charter under State of Nevada maintains an animal shelter authorized under section 2.250. The laws regulating operation of this shelter are strictly adhered to and mandated by the State. The City will maintain the shelter to render a safe place for displaced canines and to impound dangerous animals that might endanger the public wellbeing as required by law.
The shelter is run by City personnel and has been assisted by citizen volunteers for the canines under City control. The volunteers are highly valued for their many contributions. Unfortunately, there has been much internal strife that has distracted from the primary operation of the shelter. Personnel issues are confidential and not subject to disclosure.
The City decided to temporarily suspend the volunteer program at our shelter and to only utilize City personnel for operations at this time.
The City fully intends to bring back fully qualified volunteers that wish to serve in this capacity when:
1. Mandatory training is completed, governing state laws and animal shelter matters;
2. Mandatory training is completed on city policies governing conduct in the work place;
3. Safety training for all volunteers meets required standards.
