Sheriff Pope Reflects on 25 Years of 9/11 Remembrance

On Friday, September 11, 2026 Sheriff Brad Pope wrote: “Members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office joined the North Lyon County Fire Station and the Nevada Veterans Coalition to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

“Standing together as first responders, veterans, and members of one community, we remembered the lives taken too soon, honored those who ran toward danger, and reflected on the families who have carried the weight of that loss for 25 years.”

“Today was a reminder that remembrance is more than looking back—it is carrying forward the courage, unity, and spirit of service shown on one of our nation’s darkest days.

“Time has passed, but their sacrifice and memory remain. We will never forget.”

Sheriff Pope’s Message of the Week 09/11/2026

This morning, I had the honor of attending the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in Fernley. It was a somber and meaningful event, reminding us to never forget the lives lost 25 years ago today.

Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a tragedy that changed America forever. Nearly 3,000 innocent people lost their lives that day. They were mothers and fathers, husbands and wives, sons and daughters, coworkers, friends, and neighbors.

Firefighters climbed the stairs toward danger. Police officers ran toward the attacks. Dispatchers, paramedics, military personnel, and countless others stayed at their posts, doing everything they could to save lives.

Many never came home.

As first responders, we understand the oath to serve and protect. We understand that when the call comes, you don’t always know what you’re walking into—but we go anyway.

Today, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as the innocent victims of 9/11. We remember their families and the incredible burden they have carried for 25 years. And we remember the unity that followed—a nation standing together, refusing to be divided.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember. We still honor them. And we will never forget.
