Yerington NV – August 13, 2026

Written using information provided by Remembrance Run Organizer Misty Stevens.

It’s a race against time now to be prepared for the 6th Annual Remembrance Run!

On August 11, Kutoven met with Reporter Josh Little in the KOLO Channel 8 Studio for an interview to discuss the purpose of the annual Remembrance Run: To retrace the 50-mile trek that Kutoven’s great-grandfather Frank Togo traveled 3 times at 8 years of age to escape from Stewart Indian School in Carson City, Nevada to return to his family in Mason Valley. This journey retraces the path of those who endured the Indian boarding schools, honoring the children who survived and remembering those who never came home.

We will have a limited supply of orange or white shirts you can purchase for $5, or you can bring your own item and have it printed for free! We are using dark ink for this one, so bring a light colored shirt/sweatshirt, cotton works best.

We will have a separate station for making tobacco ties to give as an offering to the children’s graves at Stewart Indian School. If you aren’t coming on the Remembrance Run and would still like to support what we are doing, please join us in the park and make some ties. If you’ve never made them, we will show you how. You can ask one of the runners to carry your prayers, or meet us at the cemetery on Sunday.

6pm – Dinner will be provided by the JOM Parent Committee. Please respect the effort the journeyers are prepping for and let them eat first.

7:30pm – Remaining Native will be shown for the journeyers and community. Director Paige Bethmann and her crew will be hosting the screening and joining the journey. Thanks to our partner FunFlicks for providing the outdoor screening setup!! Funding provided by Reno Tahoe Athletics, Native Voters Alliance Nevada and individual donations – THANK YOU!!

Writer and Director Paige Bethmann describes feature-length Remaining Native as:

“A documentary told from the perspective of Ku Stevens, a 17-year-old Native American runner, struggling to navigate his dream of becoming a collegiate athlete as the memory of his great-grandfather’s escape from an Indian boarding school begins to connect past, present, and future.”

Bethmann continues: “I’m heading back to Nevada to participate in my fourth Remembrance Run. The run is a two day, 50 mile journey that honors the story of Frank Quinn, and all children who survived, stayed, and didn’t make it home from Indian boarding school.

“The first run in 2021 inspired my documentary Remaining Native which now a little over a year later has had over 100 screenings, hosted 25 community runs, and has garnered over 21 awards.

“These experiences have revealed the power of community to create spaces for healing, joy, and collective action.

“If you’re interested in supporting the run, there are a few ways to get involved.

“1. Join us virtually through signing up to participate in any mileage!
