Lyon County Board of County Commissioners Meeting Summary & Video for June 4, 2026

The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners met on Thursday, June 4, 2026, to hear presentations, conduct public hearings, and take action on several significant development and policy items. Highlights from the meeting include:

Presentations

The Board received a presentation by the Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool regarding 2026-2027 renewal. Lyon County’s FY 2026–2027 POOL/PACT renewal provides comprehensive insurance coverage and risk management services, including liability, property, cyber protection, emergency preparedness, training, and human resources support. The program focuses on protecting public agencies while promoting safety, accountability, and proactive risk management. The Board accepted the renewal proposal and authorized payment from fiscal year 2026-2027 funds.

County Ordinances

The Board approved an ordinance amending Lyon County Development Code Title 15, Chapter 239, Section 1 and Section 5 thereby adopting the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC) Building Codes and 2024 Northern Nevada Amendments to the 2024 IFC. Key updates in the 2024 IFC include Carbon Monoxide Detection Expansion, Emergency Access Road Requirements, and Permit & Enforcement Clarifications.

In addition, Commissioner Jacobson proposed an ordinance creating the North Lyon County Power General Improvement District for furnishing electric light and power to the Northern Nevada Industrial Center.

Other Board Actions

Planning Items – Approved the request from Michael & Jenny Hargis to reserve Dry Lake Road & MJ Ranch Road for two future street names. The subject property is located approximately 1,500 feet south of the intersection of Break-A-Heart Road and Highway 50, in Stagecoach

Juvenile Probation – Approved $6,300 for juvenile probation officer physicals in the Fiscal Year 2027 budget to be transferred from the General Fund contingency. This expenditure is necessary to comply with Assembly Bill 93, enacted during the 2025 Nevada Legislature, which broadens the definition of “public officer” and eligibility for certain occupational health benefits effective July 1, 2026.

County Manager Commissioners voted to forward a recommendation for approval to the State Engineer for an application filed by Granite Construction Company on November 21, 2025 which proposes to change the point of diversion, and place of use of a portion of Permit 62112. The existing place of use is within Carson City, and the proposed place of use is within Lyon County in the Dayton Valley Hydrographic Basin.

Further, the Board approved a Resolution of Lyon County’s Support of a Lyon County Lands Bill and Associated Map which outline key parcels for possible future conveyance to support critical infrastructure projects such as roads, water systems, and economic development.

Closing Business

The Board recessed to reconvene as the Silver Springs GID to approve a petition by the Boys and Girls Club of Mason Valley, Inc. to enlarge the boundaries of the Silver Springs General Improvement District sewer service area to include APN 018-481-08, and to authorize the Board Chair to sign an order to incorporate the property.
