Walker River Little League to honor Jim Sanford with Honorary First Pitch at 2026 Opening Ceremonies – April 18, 2026 9:00 a.m.

Yerington NV – April 16, 2026 : Article submitted by Walker River Little League

In the heart of Yerington, few names are as closely tied to the community as Jim Sanford—a man whose voice, leadership, and dedication have helped shape the identity of Mason Valley for decades.

This Saturday we recognize a man whose voice has become part of the very fabric of our community. Known to many as the “Voice of Yerington,” Jim has spent decades informing, connecting, and uplifting our town—not only through his work in local journalism, but through his unmistakable presence at Yerington High School events.

For years, his voice has echoed through the stands, bringing energy, pride, and tradition to every game and gathering. As he now retires from his role as announcer, we don’t just mark the end of an era—we celebrate a legacy. A legacy of dedication, community spirit, and a voice that will always be remembered.

Please join us in thanking Jim Sanford for everything he has given to Yerington.

Walker River Little League kicks off our Opening Ceremonies this Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. on Buck Aiazzi Field in Yerington. Ceremonies begin with team introductions, followed by the Presentation of Colors by VFW Post 6825.

Walker River Paiute Tribe royalty will then perform the Flag Song – Royalty members include Halle Johnson, Lynae Olivas and Devin Mullins.

The National Anthem will then be performed by Majors Division softball player Hazel Holland.

Our Player Pledge and Volunteer Pledge will then be performed by players Maverick Nightingale and Declan Henderson, both players come from our Smith community.

The Voice of Yerington, Jim Sanford, will then be introduced to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, to be received by player Sawyer Edney.

We hope to see everyone bright and early on Saturday.
