Lyon County NV – February 26, 2026
Mark Krueger, former Chief Deputy District Attorney for Lyon County, has announced his
candidacy for Lyon County District Attorney.
A seasoned attorney and veteran trial prosecutor, Mark has practiced law in Northern Nevada for more than 25 years, including six years with the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office as Chief Deputy District Attorney. During his tenure, he prosecuted a wide range of criminal cases – from serious drug offenses to homicide – as well as crimes against children and vulnerable adults.
Over the course of his career, Mark has tried more than 40 criminal jury trials. In one case, he secured a sentence of 375 years to life – the longest sentence in Lyon County history. He was also the first prosecutor in Nevada to obtain a conviction under the state law that makes it murder to supply drugs that result in a fatal overdose. In another historic first, Mark prosecuted a case in which a sitting Nevada Supreme Court Justice served as a juror.
In addition to his criminal trial experience, Mark has extensive civil law experience. He has
advised the Lyon County Commission and other county officials on a wide range of legal matters and understands the unique needs of the various communities that make up Nevada’s third-most populous county.
In his current role as Chief Deputy Attorney General in the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, Bureau of Consumer Protection, he has played a key role in the State’s complex opioid litigation, helping secure more than $1.2 billion to address the devastating impacts of the opioid crisis on Nevada families and communities.
Mark is recognized as a strong and collaborative leader who builds effective teams and fosters accountability. He has trained law enforcement cadets through the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) and serves as an adjunct professor at Western Nevada College and Truckee Meadows Community College.
Throughout his career, he has drafted state and local legislation, including provisions of the Lyon County Code, authored thousands of legal documents, and was a contributing author to a published book focused on improving the investigation and prosecution of crimes against children.
Mark has been endorsed by Lyon County Sheriff Brad Pope:
“I am running for Lyon County District Attorney because this office demands steady leadership, sound judgment, and real courtroom experience,” Mark said. “My priority will always be public safety – protecting victims, holding criminals accountable, and ensuring the District Attorney’s Office operates with professionalism and integrity. I am grateful for Sheriff Pope’s endorsement and look forward to working closely with him and our law enforcement partners to keep Lyon County safe.”
