From Katie Calhoun of Yerington, Nevada:
Yerington, Nevada—a place I proudly call home—is under threat. For those of us who have lived our entire lives here, or have chosen this beautiful community as our sanctuary, the prospect of the Monarch Data Center setting foot in our town is alarming. This isn’t just my personal opinion; I’ve spoken with hundreds of local residents, and we all share the same unwavering concerns.
The establishment of the Monarch Data Center in Yerington brings with it a slew of potential environmental hassles, from increased water usage in an area already plagued by frequent droughts to a skyrocketing demand for electricity. Such strain on our resources could dramatically alter the ecological balance we’ve worked hard to maintain here. Noise pollution, light pollution, and an inevitable extension of infrastructure are imminent threats to our community’s peace and natural beauty.
Furthermore, Yerington is a tight-knit community grounded in its tranquil way of life—many of us moved here precisely for that reason. A data center, with its industrial aura and non-stop operations, stands to jeopardize this cherished tranquility. The promised jobs might not even favor our local workforce, instead bringing in specialized workers from outside Yerington, undermining any supposed economic benefits.
Shift our focus towards sustainable development that respects our town’s unique character. We don’t need an industrial behemoth overshadowing Yerington’s natural allure and community spirit. Let us preserve our hometown for future generations, ensuring that they inherit a Yerington as beautiful and vibrant as we have known it.
Join me, and the hundreds of voices echoing throughout Yerington, in halting the Monarch Data Center’s progression into our cherished community. Sign this petition today to ensure that our home remains untouched by industrial intrusion, and let our concerns be heard by those in power. Together, let’s champion Yerington’s values and safeguard our future.
