SilverSummit Healthplan Expands Medicaid Managed Care to Rural Nevada

Yerington, NV –  January 8, 2026 – Starting January 1, 2026, rural and frontier communities across Nevada have gained expanded access to coordinated healthcare services as SilverSummit Healthplan begins providing Medicaid Managed Care to approximately 30k residents, the first time this program has been available in these regions.

Awarded a five-year contract by the Nevada Health Authority, SilverSummit’s expansion will deliver primary care, telehealth, pharmacy, maternal and behavioral health services and chronic disease management to communities previously served only by fee-for-service care. In the first year, more than 16,000 individuals are expected to enroll.

SilverSummit’s rural Nevada expansion focuses on three critical areas identified as state priorities:

  • Maternal Health – Offering 24-hour virtual OB consultations, connections to urban-based specialists and partnerships with community organizations to support pregnant women, including those struggling with addiction.
  • Behavioral Health – Opening three new Behavioral Health Support Centers in Elko, Nye and the Quad Counties region. These centers will provide therapy, care coordination, peer support, and substance use disorder treatment referrals and resources to address health-related social needs.
  • Transportation – Implementing flexible transportation programs tailored to the specific needs of each rural county, removing a key barrier to care.

“SilverSummit is committed to helping our members live healthier lives—no matter where they reside in Nevada,” said Eric Schmacker, President and CEO of SilverSummit Healthplan. “This new contract begins with local staff in our communities, ready to assist members where they live. While this expansion may be new to Nevada, it is not new to us. Our parent company, Centene, is the largest Medicaid managed care provider in the nation. We bring extensive experience and a fully developed provider network, having served rural Nevada through our Ambetter from SilverSummit exchange product since 2017.”

Since 2017, SilverSummit Healthplan has served over 100,000 Medicaid members in Nevada, offering primary care, telehealth, pharmacy services and specialized maternal and behavioral health programs. The rural expansion will strengthen provider networks, enhance care navigation and extend chronic disease management to areas that previously had limited care.

From Pizen Switch Times: Recipients in rural Nevada who’ve qualified for Medicaid through the State of Nevada may learn that they now communicate with SilverSummit Healthplan for all of their healthcare programming, if that is the managed care plan that they chose. The other choice was CareSource. If a rural Nevada Medicaid did not choose SilverSummit Healthplan or Caresource, one was chosen for them, if needed. Some Nevada Medicaid recipients may still deal directly with Nevada Medicaid, not one of the managed care plans.

Medicaid QUALIFICATION still goes through the State of Nevada, Division of Social Services DSS (formerly called Division of Welfare & Supportive Services DWSS). https://dss.nv.gov/

To date, Pizen Switch Times has received feedback from customers of SilverSummit Healthplan in Yerington who’ve stated that communication from the plan through letters and texts have been understandable with easy access to representatives by phone call.
