Yerington unfortunately couldn’t capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Smith Valley Bulldogs by a score of 71-68 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 62-50 loss they experienced in the pair’s previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2024.
Despite the loss, Yerington still got an impressive performance from Colby Rowe, who shot 63% from the field en route to 31 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Rowe’s third in a row with at least 21 points. Another player making a difference was Brent Brinkley, who posted 17 points.

Coming up, Yerington will take on Pyramid Lake in a tournament on Thursday. As for Smith Valley, they will be taking part in a tournament against Battle Mountain at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
