Food Pantries in Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton Seek Thanksgiving Side Items

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) food pantries in Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton are inviting the community to donate Thanksgiving side items, including canned green beans, boxed stuffing, instant mashed potatoes and gravy.

Last month during October, HCC’s three rural food pantries served a total of 3,160 individuals (unduplicated) and saw 180 new clients. The pantries are “volunteer-powered” with a dedicated team of community volunteers who greet pantry guests, help unload delivery trucks, organize donations and more.

HCC has a commitment to holistic health, which means addressing not only immediate food insecurity, but also supporting the overall well-being of community members through access to vital health resources. For example, each of HCC’s pantries has Community Health Workers on site. They are trained to serve as links between health and social services and the community, with the goal of improving access to services and providing accessible health education about chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

The pantries welcome Thanksgiving side items at the locations below through Wednesday, November 26. All of the pantries will be closed on Thanksgiving day so that volunteers can spend time with their families. Monetary donations can be mailed to Healthy Communities Coalition, P.O.
