LCSO Sheriff Pope’s Message of the Week on October 17, 2025

Message of the Week 10/17/2025

The Auxiliary Unit of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Volunteers in Policing (VIPs), is made up of individuals who volunteer their time to support the Sheriff’s Office and their community. The VIPs drive out of service patrol cars, clearly marked with VIP decals on the sides. The VIPs have many functions; the primary duties include:

House watches – The VIPs will visually check your home while you are away on vacation, or away from the property for any reason. Call the dispatch center to request this service.

VIN Checks – The State of Nevada requires VIN checks on vehicles for a variety of reasons. Our VIPs provide this service. To schedule a VIN check, call the dispatch center.

Special Events – The VIPs assist multiple community groups with public events by managing parking and coordinating security after hours. Our VIPs also participate in community events, handing out child identification kits and interacting with the public.

Civil Paper Service – The VIPs serve civil papers throughout the County. Civil papers never stop; the Sheriff’s Office receives thousands of civil requests each year.

Year-to-date statistics are:

Patrol – 4,903 Hours

Special Assignment- 826 Hours

Admin Support – 426 Hours

Meetings – 495 Hours

Training – 26 Hours

Vehicle Maintenance -131 Hours

Total Hours – 6,807

Monetary Value of time served – $205,162.98

House watch (Adjusted for duplicates) 5,958 Houses

VIN Checks (Adjusted for duplicates) 1,680 Checks

Civils Attempted -926

The contributions of the VIP program are a significant reason the Patrol Division of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has been so successful. Every task and every hour that is volunteered means a patrol Deputy is free to focus on targeting crime in their patrol areas.

Our VIPs are a special group of people who care about their community and its well-being. If you see our auxiliary units out and about in the community, make sure you thank them; they are deserving of it! The VIPs are always recruiting. Join this group of dedicated individuals and help make a difference in your community! https://www.lcsonv.com/vips

Respectfully,

Sheriff Brad Pope
