Obituary for Susan Kay Wood: March 20,1952 to September 21, 2025

Susan Kay Wood passed away in the comfort of her home on the morning of Sunday, September 21, 2025 surrounded by family and her beloved dog.  She was 73.

Sue was born in Olney, Illinois on March 20, 1952 to Carroll Vallie Wood and Jean Tannahill Wood. Sue lived in Olney and Salem, Illinois before her family settled in Flora, Illinois. Sue graduated from Flora High School after which she worked for many years at Sparton Manufacturing until its closing. She moved to Smith, Nevada with her family in 2001 where she became an integral part of the community quickly through her work at Bybee‘s 4H and Buckboard Station. In her down time, Sue could be found bowling, watching football or basketball, dancing to her favorite music, beating her family and friends at card games or Scrabble, or spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Sue loved Smith Valley and all those she met and fed along the way. She was a valued member of the community and will be remembered for her faith in God, love of her family, friends, and four legged companions.

Sue is survived by her son Steve Wood, daughter-in-law Jamie Wood, grandsons Stephen Wood (Caitlin) and Dakota Wood and one great-grandchild Claire Wood. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Carol Hawks, Tom Wood, and Roger Wood.
