Lyon County Board of County Commissioners Meeting Summary ― September 18, 2025

News Release

September 19, 2025

Yerington, Nevada – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on Thursday, September 18, 2025 to hear presentations and take action on several significant agenda items. Highlights from the meeting include:

 Dayton Government Complex

The Board selected to name the Dayton Government Complex building the “Charles J. Kirk Government Complex”. The building will be the future site of the Dayton Justice Court, District Attorney’s Dayton Office, Human Services Dayton Office, and Sheriff’s Office Dayton Substation. The building permit application for the facility has been submitted to the Community Development Department as well as Central Lyon County Fire Protection District. A date for the groundbreaking of the facility will be announced in the near future.

 Awards & Recognitions

  • Commissioners recognized Denise Johnson for her service to Lyon County and the District Attorney’s Office. Denise retires from Lyon County next month after 20 years of dedicated service to Lyon County residents.
  • Commissioners presented Scott Peters with the Good Samaritan Award for his many hours dedicated to keeping the community clean from litter and debris.

 Planning Items

  • Community Development – Approved Lucas Homes and Development LLC’s request to modify Condition 23 of the Traditions Casino special use permit. The change sets a new deadline: the permit will expire if the company—or any future owner—does not apply for a building permit for the casino by December 31, 2030. Once a building permit is issued, any later expiration or revocation will follow the county code in effect at that time.

 Other Board Actions:

  • Human Services – Approved a contract with Continuum Cloud for an Electronic Health Record system for a one-time cost of $50,199, and an annual cost of $40,974, with implementation costs to be paid for by the Lyon County Resilient Families Grant.
  • Facilities – Accepted the donation of $150 from the Desert Gardeners to be used to purchase trees for the Dayton area.
