Pizen Switch Times

established 2021

Hello again Yerington community!

We’ve had another busy week and next week is already lined up to be busy and productive and impactful for the future of our community.

Before getting into the updates, I’d like to mention that our Mayor John Garry is scheduled to issue a Proclamation in support of the 4-H program at Monday’s meeting. 4-H is an amazing program that has a huge impact on the lives of our youth. From agriculture to citizenship to health, you’d be hard pressed to find a better program for our youth to be a part of. I understand that October 5th-11th is 4-H week and with that just around the corner, we would love to see you come and support the program at Monday’s meeting. 10:00 a.m. at City Hall, or on zoom.

With that said, we have many critical items on our agenda for this Monday’s meeting. If you are able, I strongly encourage you to participate in person or via zoom. Meeting is at 10:00 a.m. Monday at City Hall and I’ll post a link to the meeting agenda in the comments below.

To err on the side of caution, I won’t be discussing those items here (Open Meeting Laws). I’ll simply say that they are critical to the future of our community. If you are unable to attend or participate via zoom, you can also email me comments directly and I will read them into the record during the meeting so long as you specify which item your comment is in relation to. My email address is jerryb@yerington.net.

Equipment is in and installation and electrical work on the California Well continues. We make a little progress each day. There is a considerable amount of testing and reporting that happens along the way, so please be understanding of the time it takes to complete this. This is our drinking water after all, it needs to be right.

Yerington Municipal Court opened last Monday, September 15, after being dark for several months. This allowed our new Judge and new facilities (courtesy of the Walker River Justice Court) to get organized and ready before launch. Feedback from this first court session has been largely positive and we continue to monitor for ways to improve and most importantly, seek justice.

Improvements to our wastewater system also occurred this week, as Public Works crew spent hours cleaning and improving the ladder of Cinnamon Pond. If you are unfamiliar, this is the outlet of where our wastewater goes, several miles north of town once it has been treated to regenerate as groundwater.

Pickleball improvements are underway, with fencing, poles and sealing taking place this week. I’d like to once again say thank you to the Yerington Main Street Committee and Public Works crew for getting this project running. In one of the photos you’ll see a vehicle from Tahoe Fence as they worked on pole installation on the court this week.

We are also in the final stages of presenting our 2025 Master Plan. If you’re not familiar, a communities Master Plan is a critical document that meticulously details our community. This is critical when planning for housing, amenities, commercial development and the long term vision of what we want Yerington to be in 20 years from now. Our last Master Plan update was in 2005, and that is fairly normal. The map you see as a photo attached to this post is a zoning map taken from the planning of this document. This 100+ page document will be reviewed on Wednesday by our Planning Commission and will potentially be placed before our Council for review in October.

Street Sweeping occurred last week and the years of build up and rain the night before created complications that we did our best to navigate through. We are actively working on arrangements to possibly make another run again within a week or two, before more moisture hits our streets again.

With that, I’ll leave you to your weekend.

Please feel free to reach out to me anytime if you have questions or concerns.

My office line is (775) 344-0343 and again, my email is jerryb@yerington.net.

Have a great weekend and I hope to see you Monday! (If I don’t see you at the YHS football game tonight)
