Good evening Yerington community,
There are a lot of things going on but before I get to them, I’d like to offer a special thanks to Peri & Sons Farms for performing a cemetery cleanup last week. They took this project upon themselves and did a wonderful job preserving the memories of our loved ones, helping them rest with the dignity and respect they deserve. From all of us at the City of Yerington, THANK YOU!
I’d like to ask that each of you do your best to clear the streets of vehicles, campers, etc. before September 11. On September 11, starting around 8:00 a.m., our city streets will be swept. Many of our streets are in dire need of a cleaning and we are set on making sure that regular sweepings happen more often in the future. For this initial sweep, please do your best to clear the streets as much as reasonably possible to ensure we can get as much of the built up debris as possible. We intend to clean all city streets that single day.
VORRA (Valley Off Road Racing Association) is in town again this weekend for the Stomping Grounds 400. As part of the event, traffic on Main Street will be closed Saturday 08/30/2025 from Noon until about 8:00 p.m. If you’re not part of the Poker Run, or race activities, please come downtown tomorrow and join in the fun!

If you’re wondering how to know about events like this, look no further than the calendar hosted by our Yerington Chamber of Commerce. I’ve added a photo of where to find it and I’ll include a link https://www.yeringtonchamber.org/calendar#!calendar/monthly. This calendar is full of several events and organizations are encouraged to add yours. This is something our community has needed for quite some time and we are happy to see YCC putting it all together.

I am happy to report that the City of Yerington is actively working in cooperation with our Chamber of Commerce and the Yerington Main Street Committee to develop plans to attract business and tourism to town. In fact, myself and representatives from each organization recently attended a seminar with Northern Nevada Development Authority regarding tourism. During this seminar we made contact with several representatives from the Nevada Department of Tourism and related organizations to help develop plans to boost our local economy. Afterwards, I also spent time with staff from Northern Nevada Development Authority discussing strategies to help attract businesses to Yerington. We are actively discussing the jobs and skills we need to attract, as well as critical needs, such as a veterinarian.

These discussions take time to develop into results, but I wanted to assure you that we are working diligently to support our local economy. If you are interested in following these topics more closely, I strongly encourage you to get involved and join our Chamber of Commerce. I am proud to say we have a very strong business relationship and are working hard towards a common goal. To get signed up or get in contact with YCC, you can stop by at 102 S. Main St or email them at yeringtonchamber@gmail.com.
Regarding the water from our California street well, we are waiting on one more part to arrive (any day now) and then the well should be completed and online within 2-3 weeks.
Last but not least, I wanted to remind our residents that school opens next Tuesday, September 2. Please be mindful of school zones and children walking/riding to school. Our Public Works crew worked hard these last few weeks to refresh curbs, bus loading zones, crosswalks, etc. If you ever notice an area that needs to be addressed, please reach out immediately so that we can resolve it. Safety, especially in our school zones, is a top priority.

Have a great weekend,
Jerry Bryant
