On Sunday, August 24, 2025, the State of Nevada experienced a ransomware-style cyberattack that disrupted state services. This included the shutdown of state offices, websites, phone lines, and internal IT systems. What this means for the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office:
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office operates a report management system called Spillman, through a partnership with the State of Nevada. The server for our report management system is maintained by the State of Nevada and was affected by the cyber-attack. The cyber-attack has completely shut down our access and ability to utilize the report management system. Every division of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is dependent on the report management system to operate.
The communication division uses the program to dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS services throughout Lyon County. The radios are still operational, and the calls for service are being dispatched; however, everything is being logged by hand for the time being.
The Detention Division also relies on the report management system for tracking inmate bookings and releases, and a litany of other trackable operations. This is also being done by hand and carefully tracked. The report management system also sends information to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office APP, which will not update without it; that is why the inmate list on the APP has not been updated.
Our Records Division and administrative assistants at the sub-stations also rely on the report management system to complete their daily tasks. Services that are usually provided at the substations will be on hold until the State of Nevada is back online and we are operational.
There are many Deputies in the Patrol Division who have never operated a patrol car without an onboard computer and a computer-aided dispatch program. That also runs through our report management system. The Deputies are reverted to how the Sheriff’s Office operated fifteen years ago.

This is a challenge for all of the employees of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office; they have risen to the challenge and made sure the services we can provide are done so in a safe, fast, and professional manner. The community and the Sheriff’s Office are blessed with top-notch employees.
Respectfully,
Sheriff Brad Pope
