Obituary for Clifford Ashton Thompson, Jr.: March 16, 1930 – August 18, 2025

Clifford Ashton Thompson, Jr. passed peacefully in the presence of family: his daughter, Susan, and his grandson, Mark, by his side at his home on Manha Lane in Yerington, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Mollart) Thompson; his grandson, Steven Oliver; his brother, Francis of Auburn, CA; and his sister, Alyce of Fernley, NV.

  
Clifford was born in Yerington to Clifford and Marguerite Thompson.  He is survived by his brother, Wilber Thompson of Greybull, Wyoming; and by his eight children: Joan, Lou Ellen, John,  June, Susan, Maggie, Dolly, and Linda. Clifford and Evelyn had 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.

 
Clifford spent most of his childhood in Sierra City, California, and later moved to Yerington to finish high school where he lived with family. He met Evelyn in high school, and they married shortly after graduation.  Clifford and Evelyn spent several years between Sierra City and Yerington.   Clifford and Evelyn finally settled in Yerington after Hilda Mollart, his mother-in-law, asked them to take over the family farm on Manha Lane, and they spent the rest of their lives running the farm.  


Clifford was a muti-skilled individual. He was a farmer, mechanic, water-well driller, welder and a wood cutter. In fact, he had the first chain saw in Mason Valley and spent many a winter cutting trees in the valley. He also knew how to cut and lay roofing shingles. His hobbies included mining, geology, constitutional rights, politics, and long conversations with friends & strangers.  
 
Clifford’s Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Park in Yerington, Nevada on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
