Continuing its efforts to support local students in their educational efforts, the Yerington Rotary Club has once again provided several scholarships to YHS seniors in 2025 – this time totaling $40,000.
The annual scholarships are offered via the Rotary Scholarship Committee and funded by the Yerington Rotary Foundation.
Two $7,500 Malcolm Rountree Scholarships in the areas of medicine, science or engineering were announced during the school’s Awards Ceremony to include Horatio Arias and Gracie Jeka.
Joe Giomi Memorial Scholarships valued at $6,000 apiece were awarded to Casey Bobrick and Yessenia Zarazua, while two $3,000 John Giomi Memorials went to Kaylee Heffler and Josue Sanchez Casteneda.
A $3,000 Service Above Self Scholarship was awarded to Yosselin Vazquez Madera.
Alexis Martinez Castenada received the Michael Hardesty Memorial Scholarship (trade school careers).
And, the $1,000 Manuel Barcellos Memorial Scholarship which includes an athletic participation requirement was presented to America Hernandez.
Chosen as alternate recipients for this year’s Rotary Scholarships are Jose Soto, Natalia Hernandez, Celia Flores and Mia Canales.
