Lyon County Board of County Commissioners Approves Final FY26 Budget

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 27, 2025

Yerington, Nevada – On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) unanimously approved the final budget for fiscal year 2025-2026, following a presentation from Comptroller Josh Foli.

Comptroller Foli reported the final budget had only minor changes from the tentative budget previously reviewed and approved during the April 2nd tentative budget hearing.

During the presentation, Mr. Foli noted that while the budget is balanced, revenue trends are declining. He recommended the Board approve the final budget as presented and advised that any revenue shortfalls that arise during the fiscal year be addressed through the County’s general fund contingency or the rainy day fund, as appropriate.

Since increases in expenditures are much higher than increases in revenues, the County is reducing positions for the 2025-2026 to balance the budget. This budget shows a decrease in 6 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions from the prior budget along with 2 new positions created in the Dayton Water and Sewer Utility Funds. A significant part of the expenditure increase is due to the PERS benefit, which is increasing 8.75% for sworn employees and 3.25% for all other employees.

The anticipated General Fund ending fund balance is still considered sufficient to maintain financial stability, although is it decreasing by $4,125,643 to cover the budget deficit.  Lyon County also maintains a balance of $3,450,000 in the County’s stabilization fund as authorized by NRS.354.6115.

The final 2025-2026 budget is available on the Lyon County website. Residents can view recordings of Board of County Commission meetings on the Lyon County YouTube Channel.
