Obituary for Joseph “Joe” Anthony Sacra: February 4,1955 to March 10, 2025

Joseph (Joe) Anthony Sacra from Petaluma, California passed away on March 10, 2025 while staying in Yerington, Nevada.

He was born February 4, 1955 in Washington, DC and raised in Falls Church, Virginia. He attended George Mason High School and went to Lincoln Tech Automotive School in Arlington, Virginia.  Joe had many friends while growing up on Greenway Blvd. Joe enjoyed family trips to Shawnee Land, ice skating and camping.

Joe moved to California in 1978 with his dog Bo. Bo was Joe’s best friend for 17 years.
He lived first in Stockton, California and eventually settled in Petaluma. Through his years in Virginia, California and Nevada he made many friends who will miss him dearly. During his time in Yerington he gained many friends at the bowling alley and while out walking with Stella.

Joe was an auto mechanic, always interested in cars and always fixing and tinkering
with something.

One of his favorite jobs was at Dinan Engineering where he was a BMW mechanic
building one of the first turbo engines for BMWs. He enjoyed go-cart racing as a pit
mechanic and also racing cars himself. He loved his Harley Davidson Knucklehead.

Joe was the family prankster, always had a joke to tell or a trick to play. He enjoyed
“seefood” and was known to sneak pepper in your Fresca if you weren’t watching. His
grace started and ended with “AMEN”. Everyone marveled at his one blue eye and one
green eye. He was our rare one!

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Rhoda Mae Sacra and Caroll “Woody” Sacra
of Falls Church, Virginia and James Hamby of Clinton, Maryland. Also preceded by aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joe is survived by his brother Richard Sacra (Clarissa); sisters Sara Payne and Colleen
Kriby; Aunt Betty Meyer; nieces and nephews, Jason, Justin, Megan, Charles, Carole,
Caleb, Christian, Jordan; and several great nieces and nephews and cousins. He also
leaves behind several special friends he’s had all his life.

Although he lived across the country, he was loved greatly by his family back home.
Joe is also survived by his best friend “Stella” who was always at his side and walked
everywhere with Joe, always making new friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Joe 2:00 pm Saturday, May 3rd at Rattlesnake Lanes, 17 North Main Street Yerington. Family and friends are invited to sign his online guest book at www.FRFH.net

Also memorial services are being planned in California and Northern Virginia and will be announced when scheduled.

A website to share photos of Joe has been set up at Joe Sacra Photos. Please share
your photos of Joe and enjoy looking through the site.

We also want to announce that Joe’s dog was adopted and has a new loving foster home.

Arrangements and cremation was under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, NV 89447 (775) 463-2911
