FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Yerington Alum Kevin Kirk Shines at the Boston Marathon!
Lyon County School District is thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievements of Kevin Kirk, a 2018 graduate of Yerington High School, who recently placed 33rd overall and 19th among American runners at the world-renowned Boston Marathon, crossing the finish line with an impressive time of 2:17:02.
Kevin’s passion for running began in LCSD, where he ran cross country and track for Yerington High. After graduation, he continued his athletic and academic journey at Utah Tech University (formerly Dixie State), competing on the school’s running teams and earning two bachelor’s degrees in Exercise Science and Sports Management by 2022.
Kevin then went on to Weber State University, where he ran on both the cross country and track teams while earning a master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership, graduating in December of 2023. His dedication to both education and athletics has made him a standout in every field he’s entered.
Running remains a true family passion—Kevin’s wife is also an accomplished runner who has qualified for the Olympic Trials, inspiring Kevin to pursue his own marathon goals. His first marathon was the Los Angeles Marathon last summer, where he placed 6th overall. In October, he competed in the Twin Cities Marathon, finishing in 10th place with a time of 2:16:33—a performance that qualified him for the Boston Marathon!
What’s next for Kevin? He plans to stay closer to home in Utah for a while, especially with a baby on the way this August. He’s scheduled to compete in several half marathons this summer, as well as a full marathon in St. George, Utah. Kevin is also setting his sights on the California International Marathon this December, where he hopes to qualify for the United States Olympic Trials.
Lyon County School District is incredibly proud of Kevin Kirk’s accomplishments and the determination, discipline, and passion he continues to display. LCSD will be cheering him on as he pursues his Olympic dream and continues to represent our community with pride.
Congratulations to Kevin – his LCSD family is behind him all the way!
