Smith Valley Minors Storm Back To Defeat Cubs
Smith Valley Minors trailed by as many as five, but came back to defeat Cubs on Thursday, 13-9.
Cubs opened the scoring in the first after a wild pitch scored one run.
Smith Valley Minors took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Warren M grounded out, and , each scoring one run.
Cubs scored on a wild pitch, which helped Cubs tie the game at two in the top of the second.
Smith Valley Minors took the lead in the bottom of the second. James P drew a walk, scoring one run, to give Smith Valley Minors the edge, 4-2.
Smith Valley Minors flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring nine runs on three hits to take the lead, 13-9. The biggest blow in the inning was an inside the park home run by Warren that drove in two.
Colton S stepped on the mound first for Smith Valley Minors. The hurler allowed three hits and six runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking five. Elvis Z started on the bump for Cubs. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and four runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out four and walking four.
Ryles G, Johnny A, Wacey J, Declan H, and Warren each collected one hit for Smith Valley Minors. Warren led Smith Valley Minors with three runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Wacey led Smith Valley Minors with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing 10 walks for the game. Smith Valley Minors were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Nash M had the most chances in the field with six.
