Lyon County Board of County Commissioners Meeting Summary ― February 20, 2025
Yerington, Nevada – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on Thursday, February 20, 2025 to hear presentations and take action on several significant agenda items. Highlights from the meeting include:
Libra Solar Conditional Use Permit
The Board approved a request from Arevia Power for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for an approximately 4.7 miles long 345-kV generation tie-line (gen-tie) connecting the Libra Solar project to the Ft. Churchill Substation on State of Nevada and Bureau of Land Management lands located north and east of the existing Fort Churchill substations in Mason Valley. County officials emphasized the CUP was only for the gen-tie lines in Lyon County and the Board of County Commissioners do not have any jurisdiction over the solar field project planned for neighboring Mineral County. The CUP will allow Lyon County to include roadway paving and drainage improvements on East Walker Road as well as other conditions. The CUP was approved three in support (Keller, Hendrix, Cassinelli) and one opposed (Hockaday). Commissioner Jacobson was not present.
Sheriff’s Office Awards
Sheriff Brad Pope presented Dispatch Supervisor Eric Engelman, Dispatcher Elizabeth Waid, Dispatcher Mickenzie Stretch, Sergeant Gabriel Santos, Deputy Jessie Cornett, Deputy Ian Foster, Deputy Jessica Frontuto and Deputy Travis Masterson with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office “Life Saving Award” after their heroic actions on January 11, 2025 to perform lifesaving measures on a 25-year-old female delivering two babies that were initially not breathing. All personnel involved worked together as a team to bring the infants the swift and critical care they needed to survive.
