Lyon County Board of County Commissioners Meeting Summary ― February 6, 2025

 

Yerington, Nevada – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on Thursday, February 6, 2025 to hear presentations and take action on several significant agenda items. Highlights from the meeting include:

 

US 50 East of Dayton Preservation Project

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) provided an update on the US 50 East of Dayton Preservation Project. NDOT project is currently moving into the final design phase by summer of 2025. Project features include repaving US 50 from Fortune Drive to east of Bryce St., new signalized intersections, a speed limit reduced from 60 MPH to 55 MPH from east of Fortune Dr. to east of Bryce St., and other proposed improvements. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026. The full presentation is available on the Lyon County website.

 

Board Appointments

After thorough deliberation, the Board appointed Patti Palmer (with Commissioners Keller, Hendrix, Hockaday in support and Commissioners Jacobson and Cassinelli opposed) to the Library Board of Trustees with a term expiring June 30, 2028. In addition, Lorene Duncan was appointed to the Dayton Regional Advisory Board and Ammon Terpening to the Silver Springs Advisory Board with terms expiring December 31, 2026.

 

Update on Lucas Homes and Development Projects

Don Smit provided a presentation on the status of development projects in Lyon County owned by Lucas Homes and Development LLC following the recent passing of the company’s owner Stan Lucas. Mr. Smit provided that Lucas Homes is committed to completing the approximately 313 residential units in Traditions. The commercial area of Traditions will be placed up for sale (with exception of the Lyon County Government Complex) as well as several other Lucas Homes projects. Mr. Smit also shared that the traffic signal on US 50 at Traditions Parkway will be included in the project wrap-up. The signal is paid for and will be in place and ready for NDOT in August of this year.

 

Public Nuisance Hearing

The Board conducted a public hearing and declared the property at 85 Hart Street, Dayton, NV a public nuisance pursuant to Lyon County Code, Title 6, Chapter 1. Commissioners directed staff to take appropriate enforcement and/or abatement actions as necessary to address public health and safety concerns.

 

Other Board Actions:

  • Human Services Grants and Contracts – Approved a contract between Lyon County and Hometown Cleaning for $39,642.50 to provide homemaker services to individuals with the Senior Services Case Management program. The Board also approved contracts for behavioral health clinician services with independent contractor Marricella Adams, LCSW in an amount not to exceed $94,456 for the Resilient Families program and $13,650 for the Trauma Focused Therapy program.
  • 83rd Nevada Legislative Session – Commissioners discussed the 83rd session of the Nevada Legislature which began Monday. The Board directed staff to take action on Assembly Bills 14, 51, 64, 70, 78; Assembly Joint Resolution 1; Senate Bills 69, 70, 78, 100 109, 123; and Senate Joint Resolution 4. Emergency Management and Government Affairs Director Taylor Allison reported Lyon County is already tracking 265 bills this session with a wide range of potential impacts to County government and the community.
