Obituary for Keith “Nub” Stauffer: September 22,1944 to December 27, 2024

Keith “Nub” Stauffer passed away peacefully at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law in Fernley, Nevada, on December 27, 2024, at the age of 80.

Nub was born on September 22, 1944, in Logan, Utah, the son of Keith Hughes and Margaret Stauffer. His father was killed in World War II when Nub was just one month old. His mom later married Roland Atkins, whom Nub referred to as his “Pa”.

His family moved to Yerington in 1952 where he attended school and graduated from Yerington High School in 1962. Nub was an outstanding athlete at Yerington High School where he played four years of football, basketball, and baseball. After graduating from Yerington High School, Nub attended BYU on a full-ride scholarship to play baseball. After his freshman year he returned to Nevada and played baseball for UNR where he was a part of two championship teams. He graduated from UNR with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Nub married his high school sweetheart, Trish Leigh, on June 14, 1965. They later moved to Sparks, Nevada, where they raised their two daughters, Jeannie and Cori. After serving over 30 years with United Airlines, Nub retired, and he and Trish settled in Yerington.

Nub loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter; sometimes referred to as “Dr. Duck”. He also enjoyed cheering on his two grandsons, Casey and Aron, who also attended Yerington High School. Nothing made him prouder.

Nub is survived by his two daughters, whom he loved dearly, Jeannie (Daron) Wildermuth and Cori (Jesse) Stauffer, his two grandsons, Casey (Taylour) Wildermuth and Aron (Gracie) Wildermuth; his brother Ed (Regis) Stauffer, Jetty Maddox and Rick (Joyce) Atkins and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the home of Jesse and Cori, 2233 Southridge Court, Carson City, Nevada. Please stop by any time between 1:00-6:00 p.m. The family has requested that you wear attire from one of Nub’s favorite teams: the San Francisco 49ers, New York Yankees, or UNR
