Nevada Department of Public Safety Recognizes LCSO Stand-Outs

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office would like to give a shout-out to our employees for their efforts in enforcing traffic safety throughout Lyon County this past year. Last night, they were recognized by the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Joining Forces/Office of Traffic Safety. Let’s congratulate them on their awards for their dedication to keeping our roads safe!

Sgt J. Redmond runs our Office of Traffic Safety Program and received the following awards:
Joining Forces Coordinator of the Year
  • Outstanding Officer of the Year
  • Outstanding Leadership
K9 Deputy Kharrl and his K9 partner Ares were recognized for their continued efforts in cleaning up the streets throughout Lyon County with multiple drug/DUI arrests and speed enforcement citations. Deputy Kharrl is also a Field Training Officer and uses his expertise to train new deputies in the field. They received the following awards:
  • Outstanding Officer Performance
  • Outstanding Performance in Reducing Impaired Driving
  • Outstanding Performance in Speed Enforcement
Deputy J. Tafelmeyer was recognized for his continued efforts in seeking out multiple drug and DUI arrests and speed enforcement. In addition to being a Field Training Officer, he made time to obtain multiple teaching certifications this past year to instruct and educate our law enforcement officers on drug and DUI enforcement. Deputy Tafelmeyer also regularly attends the POST academies to train new law enforcement officers. He received the following awards:
  • Education Implementer of the Year
  • Outstanding Officer Performance
  • Outstanding Performance in Reducing Impaired Driving
  • Outstanding Performance in Speed Enforcement
Sheriff Pope with Deputy Tafelmeyer and Sergeant Redmond:

Deputy T. Bonds was recognized for his continued efforts with speed enforcement throughout the county and multiple DUI arrests throughout the year He received the following awards:
  • Outstanding Officer Performance
  • Outstanding Performance in Reducing Impaired Driving
  • Outstanding Performance in Speed Enforcement

We would also like to recognize Rebecca Martinez, who is our amazing fiscal manager for the Sheriff’s Office. Rebecca helps with the finances and writes grants for many of the programs that allow our department to be able to participate in these events.
