Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Message of the Week: September 27, 2024 from Deputy Chief Brantingham

Message of the Week 9/27/2024

Summer has come to an end in Lyon County and cooler temperatures are ahead. This time of year is normally a shift in gears for the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office, as call volume starts to tick down and school is back in session. So far in 2024, we have not seen a real drastic change in the number of calls for service and our crew in Fernley would likely say we have gotten busier over the past couple of weeks. This has not correlated to an increase in arrests or any specific crime type and we are anticipating this will taper off as the full feeling of fall sets in.

Fall is a busy time around the county due to numerous community events. Sheriff Pope, Commander Ortiz and the Deputies at Dayton Valley Days reported seeing a very large turnout of people and lots of interaction with our citizens at, what was described as, one of the best Dayton Valley Days they can remember. On October 12, we will be at Silver Springs Founders Day and at the NAMI Walk at the Out of Town park in Fernley. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit will be participating in the 3rd Annual K9 Unit Challenge on October 19 at Fuji Park in Carson City. Last year, Sergeant Matthew Galvin and K9 Blady won the best handler and dog team, so we are looking forward to seeing them defend their title.

Following these events, we will be gearing up for the numerous Trunk or Treat events around the county. We still have details of these events coming in and are looking forward to seeing everyone throughout the month. The Sheriff’s Office would like to participate in your Trunk or Treat event, so please let us know the details when you have them available. Following Trunk or Treat season, we will be gearing up for the Annual Shop with a Sheriff Event. Donations to Shop with a Sheriff can be made through the following Go Fund Me link: https://gofund.me/6d5bd22f

There are lots of opportunities to interact with our staff in the coming weeks and we are looking forward to seeing you in the community.

Chief Deputy
