Nevada’s Regional Junior Ranger Day Returns to Washoe Lake State Park on September 7th, 2024

You are invited!

WASHOE CITY, NV – Nevada State Parks is proud to host the 2024 Regional Junior Ranger Day at Washoe Lake State Park on Saturday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This annual event, which began in 2022, celebrates the Junior Ranger programs of Northern Nevada, bringing together local agencies to engage children and families in outdoor education and fun.

Regional Junior Ranger Day was first initiated by the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department, which invited surrounding agencies to join in a collaborative celebration of their Junior Ranger programs. Since its inception, the event has grown in popularity, with each year showcasing the unique offerings of different agencies. This year, Nevada State Parks is honored to host the event at Washoe Lake State Park, a location known for its scenic beauty and rich natural resources.

Participating agencies in this year’s event include Nevada State Parks, Washoe County Regional Parks & Open Space, the City of Reno, Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department, Nevada Department of Wildlife, and Nevada Division of Forestry. Each agency will present interactive booths and activities designed to inspire young adventurers to explore and protect Nevada’s natural and cultural heritage.

“Regional Junior Ranger Day is a wonderful opportunity for children and families to connect with the outdoors and learn about the incredible natural environments that Northern Nevada has to offer,” said Kim Zuch, Washoe Lake State Park Interpreter. “We’re excited to continue this tradition and to see how much it’s grown since its beginning just a few years ago.”

Activities will include nature hikes, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, a special appearance by Smokey Bear, and more. Children will have the chance to earn Junior Ranger badges and certificates by participating in a variety of educational and hands-on activities. The event is free and open to the public, with no prior registration required.

In addition to the fun and learning, food will be available, including hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and drinks. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic or enjoy the available concessions and spend a full day of outdoor fun at Washoe Lake State Park.
