Obituary: Ronald Dean Snooks Sr. ~ June 18, 1951 to July 1, 2024

Ronald Dean Snooks Sr. has made his final ride to be with our Heavenly Father. After a two year long battle with cirrhosis, Ronald finally succumbed to his ailment on July 1, 2024.  He was 73 years old.

Ronald was born in Schurz, Nevada on June 18, 1951. He spent his formative years on the Yomba reservation. Ron was raised by his grandparents Art and Alice Hooper, where he grew up with his siblings and cousins.

Ron was the youngest of the bunch so, when the kids all went off to school he had to entertain himself, this is when he found his gift. Ron developed a bond with horses and cows like no one else. This time helped him develop empathy and patience skills that would make him  the father and friend he would become.

Ron graduated from Austin High School in 1969.  He spent his young adult life as many do living fast and running wild with his cousins, spending most of his time riding broncs and chasing Mustangs.

He got a job at Basic, the Magnesite Mine in Gabbs, Nevada,  where he would put in 43 years of service. Ron was a gifted operator who exhibited a mastery of every piece of equipment he operated.

Shortly after he started his career he married and began a family with Vonnie Snooks.

As soon as  he began his family, Ron found strength through his relationship with the Lord and stopped living so fast. He dedicated his life to be the father that he never had.

Ron is survived by the mother of his children, Vonnie Snooks;  Son Ron Snooks Jr. with wife Monica and their children Garrett, Kelsey, Mariah, Natallie and Theodore; Son Russell Snooks and his children Nathaniel, Mia and Madison; Son Mark Snooks with wife Crystal and children Trenton, Christian, Ruben, Stanley and Anthony; Son Richard Snooks and his wife Sommer; Son Rocky Snooks; and Daughter Rhyanne Snooks with her daughter Faith.

We will be having a double celebration of life on Saturday July 27th beginning in Fallon at the tribal gymnasium at 10am. After that we will be making the pilgrimage to his homeland Yomba.   In Yomba we will be holding a gravesite service around 1 followed by a fellowship meal at the community center.  Family and friends are invited to sign his online guest book at www.FRFH.net

Ronald spent his life being a pillar of strength and patience. As you go forth in your day, think of Ron and show kindness and consideration to your fellow man and animal.

Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home, 25 Hwy 208 Yerington, Nevada 89447, (775) 463-2911
