Lyon County Board of County Commissioners Meeting Summary ― June 20, 2024
Yerington, Nevada – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners convened on June 20, 2024, to hear presentations on regional issues and approve several significant agenda items.
U.S. 50 Mound House Speed Management
Commissioners heard a presentation from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) on the U.S. 50 Mound House Speed Study. NDOT assessed vehicle speed, pedestrian movements, and crash history on U.S. 50 using LiDAR data. The full presentation is available in the agenda packet on the Lyon County website.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Life Saving Award
Sheriff Brad Pope presented Deputy Benjamin Beck with a Life Saving Award for his swift actions to perform CPR compressions on an unconscious civilian on May 2, 2024. Beck was recommended for the award by Central Lyon County Fire Protection District Chief Rich Harvey.
Carson River Watershed and Drought Plan
Ed James from the Carson Water Subconservancy presented a comprehensive 30-year plan addressing drought and water sustainability in the Carson River Watershed.
2024 Primary Election Canvass
The Board approved the canvass of votes from the recent 2024 primary election, ensuring the accuracy and legitimacy of the electoral process.
Other Board Action Items
- Personnel Policies and Salary Adjustments: The Board approved updates to the Lyon County Personnel Policy, the Master Salary Tables, and the Management Pay Plan, including a 5% across-the-board salary increase for fiscal year 2025.
- Board Appointments: Jerry Culwell was appointed as Chairman for the first meeting of the Central Lyon Vector Control Board.
- Solar Panel Recycling Facility: The Board approved a conditional use permit for Comstock Metals Corporation to operate a facility for recycling photovoltaic solar panels in Silver Springs.
- Residential Development Extension: An extension was granted for filing final maps for Units 17B and 18 of the Riverpark Residential Subdivision until September 30, 2025.
- Effluent Disposal and Sludge Dewatering Projects: Contracts with AtkinsRealis for engineering services related to effluent disposal and sludge dewatering at the Silver Springs GID Wastewater Treatment Plant were approved, improving wastewater management.
