Message of the Week 03/22/2024
Last week, members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff, met with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley in reference to the Night in the Country Music Festival. The Boys and Girls Clubs asked the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office to lead the law enforcement response and presence at the Night in the County Music Festival. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office agreed to lead the law enforcement effort at the event.
The Boys and Girls Club has a new location, located entirely inside the City of Yerington. When designing the new location and venue, Fire Department Personnel and Law Enforcement had a voice in the way it was designed. The new venue makes the response of emergency personnel much more efficient, and safer for attendees and emergency personnel.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office NITC mission: The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, and all available assets within, will provide law enforcement protection, oversight, communications, and emergency response for all Sworn and Non-Sworn agency personnel, as well as citizens engaged in special event activity, and all professional personnel engaged in the event planning and performance. Lyon County Sheriff’s Office personnel will have the ability to appropriately respond to all threats that may possibly affect the event, and the safety of the public.
I have seen the arguments for and against the Night in Country event. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office as an agency, doesn’t take sides one way or another, our function is to protect the public as the need arises during the event. This is best served by partnering with the Boys and Girls Club, having a voice during the planning phase, and carrying out our mission to ensure all safety precautions are made; and we are in position to act accordingly.
Like last year, a full after-action report of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will be released after the event.
Hopefully, Spring is here to stay!
