LCSO Sheriff’s Message of the Week: Friday, March 22, 2024

Last week, members of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff, met with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley in reference to the Night in the Country Music Festival. The Boys and Girls Clubs asked the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office to lead the law enforcement response and presence at the Night in the County Music Festival. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office agreed to lead the law enforcement effort at the event.

The Boys and Girls Club has a new location, located entirely inside the City of Yerington. When designing the new location and venue, Fire Department Personnel and Law Enforcement had a voice in the way it was designed. The new venue makes the response of emergency personnel much more efficient, and safer for attendees and emergency personnel.

At the Board of County Commissioners meeting on 03/21/2024, Frederick Steinmann from the University of Nevada Reno, presented an economic impact study of the 2023 Night in the Country Event. Many community members have expressed their concern that the economic impact on the region is not significant. The presentation is attached to this message.

I have seen the arguments for and against the Night in Country event. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office as an agency, doesn’t take sides one way or another, our function is to protect the public as the need arises during the event. This is best served by partnering with the Boys and Girls Club, having a voice during the planning phase, and carrying out our mission to ensure all safety precautions are made; and we are in position to act accordingly.

Like last year, a full after-action report of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will be released after the event.
