March 7, 2024 Board of County Commissioners Meeting Summary
Yerington, Nevada – The Lyon County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on Thursday, March 7, 2024 and provided direction to County Manager Andrew Haskin to continue working on the proposed Public Lands Bill maps and to draft a resolution for possible adoption during a future meeting. Further, the Board directed Mr. Haskin to explore the composition of a potential Public Land Management Advisory Board. The BOCC also directed Mr. Haskin to contract with Walker & Associates through June 30, 2025 to serve as Lyon County’s lobbyist for the 2025 Nevada Legislative session.
Lyon County Sheriff’s Office
Sheriff Brad Pope presented a retirement plaque to Donna Cupp, Dispatch Manager, for her 34 years of dedicated service to the residents of Lyon County.
Planning Items
- Approved a request for a Commercial Subdivision Tentative Map request from Stan Lucas to merge five existing parcels, east and west of Traditions Parkway, to establish an approximately 125.13 acre commercial subdivision, creating the boundaries of the Traditions Commercial Center to allow for the future commercial, retail, office, light industrial and multi-family residential development.
- Approved a Zoning Map Amendment request from Lyon County to amend the zoning map designation at 56 Red Rock Road in Mound House from General Industrial to Public Facilities for the Mound House Community Center.
Other Action Items
- Approved letters of support on behalf of the BOCC for federal Community Project Funding requests related to emergency backup generators, a Sheriff’s Office training facility, Willowcreek Lift Station improvement project, Silver Springs GID storm drainage repair, Old Town Dayton sewer main rehabilitation, Sheep Camp Dam rehabilitation, Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST) vehicle retrofits, and Mound House Community Center.
- Approved an agreement for legal services with Marquis Aurbach Chtd. (MAC) to provide general services to the county and District Attorney’s Office to be funded in FY24 from the existing District Attorney’s budget (salaries).
- Appointed Alice Horton to the Smith Valley Park & Recreation Advisory Board and Marshal Hartman to the Smith Valley Advisory Board with terms expiring December 31, 2025.
- Approved a contract with Manhard Consulting for an amount not to exceed $47,500 for engineering services for the Smokey Hills Water Main Replacement Project in Dayton.
Silver Springs General Improvement District
The Board recessed to reconvene as the Silver Springs GID to approve a contract with Parkson Corporation for an amount not to exceed $609,952 for the purchase of equipment and services to replace the Biolac Aeration System at the wastewater treatment plans.
Liquor Board
Commissioners convened as the Lyon County Liquor Board to approve a Nevada State Importer/Wholesaler Liquor License Application for MJH Enterprises, doing business as Lakeshore Premium Wines and Spirits per NRS 369.200.
