Message of the Week 09/08/2023
In conjunction with the start of the school year on Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Traffic Enforcement Team(STET) launched its first of many operations. STET conducted a patrol of school zones throughout Lyon County, in an effort to remind drivers to operate their vehicles safely while in school zones. Here are the statistics from that operation:
1 – DL NON-RES SUSPENDED
We will continue to run operations in school zones throughout the year. Please contact Sergeant Gabe Santos GSANTOS@lyon-county.org with any traffic complaints.
Also with the school year starting the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has selected a new School Resource Officer for the Silver Springs and Smith Valley Schools. Deputy Ted Ziegenfuss has been selected to fill that position, Deputy Ziegenfuss was assigned to the Central Command area (Silver Springs). If you see him on duty welcome him to the School, we know he’ll do great working with the youth of his perspective schools.
As summer is coming to an end, our calls for service are increasing. I anticipated a slight rise in response times across the board due the amount of calls for service we have been experiencing. After reviewing the report (Attached) I was impressed with our Deputies, there was an overall decrease in response times in 10/12 priorities throughout the County. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies continue to respond to calls for service in a timely, safe and professional manner.
Sharing our zero tolerance policy on crime in schools last week raised similar questions and concerns from the previous school years release. I can assure the community, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office operates within, and is guided by the Constitution of the United States of America. Schools are not immunity zones were crime can go unchecked and the law ignored.
Be safe and enjoy these last days of summer.
