Larry John Shipley ~ November 28, 1962 to February 3, 2023 ~ “…never met a stranger…helped friends & community whenever he could…”

Larry John Shipley passed away the afternoon of Friday February 3, 2023 from complications from his kidney removal.  He was 60.

Larry was born November 28, 1962 in Yerington to John and Alice Shipley. Larry grew up in and loved Yerington. He always said the only way he would leave is if they got a stoplight in town.

In school he was on the basketball team, drama club and FFA.

Larry worked for Renner Equipment while he was in high school and also enjoyed living and working at the Flying M Ranch. Soon after graduating he went to work for KT Vending and then started working for Valley Dairy in his 20’s. He has been known as the milk man ever since. He started working for Model Dairy in 1985. He was a hard-working loyal employee.

In his younger years Larry enjoyed building derby cars to compete in the Lyon County Fair every year. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

In 1996 Larry became a daddy to his one and only child, his son Lane. Lane is his pride and joy.

Larry married Sandy Stanhope on March 20, 2010 in Genoa, NV. They shared almost 15 beautiful years together. Larry and Sandy actually first met as kids when their moms worked together as telephone operators for the local telephone company, Contel. With their marriage Larry and Sandy were both blessed with bonus kids and they are the proud parents of 3 amazing kids and were also blessed with 4 amazing grand kids.

Larry was well known for his mouth, not holding back his opinion and a knack for telling it like it is. He told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. He like a four-letter word as much as he liked steak and potatoes.

During his time with us he always helped his friends and community whenever and however he could. He helped the Lions Club dye Easter eggs every year and kept the eggs in his semi until Easter. Every Easter morning, he would go deliver the eggs for the Easter egg hunt in town. Larry volunteered for 20 years with the Night in The Country and took a week of his vacation to do that. He worked many afternoons when he got off work and weekends with them also. Larry always donated back to the community whatever money he earned doing this. Larry and Sandy, along with their neighbors Travis and Kelly Crowder hosted a block party every July for everyone in their neighborhood and their family and friends. Larry was recently recognized by the Boys and Girls Club as their Volunteer of the year for all the help he has given.

Larry never met a stranger, always went out of his way to help anyone in need and had an incredible work ethic. Larry could always make you laugh and sometimes annoy the hell out of you!

Larry is preceded in death by his father John Shipley. He is survived by his wife Sandy, his son Lane, step son Zach Thompson (Chris Meister), step daughter Caitlin (Jason) Hodges, grandchildren Andrew, Ryan, Emery and Wyatt Hodges, his mom Alice Shipley, sister Lori Hawkins (Morey Tresnit) and numerous nieces, great nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He loved them all very much.

In lieu of flowers, our family is requesting that donations be made in Larry’s name to the Josh Farler Foundation P.O. Box 73 Yerington, NV 89447.

Please join us in celebrating Larrys life with a potluck on Saturday February 18, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Boys and Girls Club in Yerington.  Family and friends are invited to sign his online guest book at www.FRFH.net
