In late September Gomez Roofing LLC re-roofed a home owned by Cher Giomi near the LaPinata Mall. Leah Wilkinson watched through her window at her job as the the crew worked. The roof had been damaged after the car & van arson fire near the mental health office earlier in the summer.
Leah approached Octavio Gomez, business owner, to compliment him on the quality of work and the fine looking finished roof. One week later, Leah and her husband Jim, had 4 roofs on their property DONE and finished well. The work crew began daily at 7am and ended at 6pm, completing the work in two and a half days.
Jim and Leah own a home that was moved to Mason Valley in 1933 from the ghost town of Ludwig in the Singatse Mountain Range bordering Mason Valley on the West. The home has an added on country kitchen and bathroom. They bought the home from Susan Groteguth, widow of Leah’s classmate at YHS Class of ’81 Lynda Reese. Before Lynda and Susan owned the home, the Mattices owned it at some point. History of the homestead is a bit sketchy between 1933 and 2000. Leah likes to think she catches a glimpse of Lynda every once in awhile when she drops in to check out her old stomping grounds.
Here are some of the before and after photos of the house roof. There was a 1 foot by 1 foot hole under the 3 layers of asphalt shingles, perhaps from an old chimney.
