***Update*** September 15th, 2021: A Memorial service to be held 10:00 am Saturday, September 18th at the Community United Methodist Church, 221 N. Main Street Yerington. A reception will follow the service at the Church. His cremated remains will be buried in the family plot at Valley View Cemetery. Lionel Ray Deffenbaugh passed away in Salem, OR on Monday morning, August 23, 2021. He was 95 years old.
Lionel was born in Hays, Kansas on September 17, 1925, the son of Oran and Letha (Loyd) Deffenbaugh. He was proud to be a Navy veteran serving in World War II. Most days he wore a hat that said he was a WWII veteran, many people stopped and thanked him for his service, and a few paid for his meal!
He married Iris (Ellena) on October 15, 1949 in Nevada. She passed away on November 9, 1984. They lived in several places, finally settling in Yerington, Nevada and raised their family. Lionel enjoyed driving 18-wheelers for many years, playing Country and Western music, golfing and eating oysters!
He is survived by his current wife, Amy (Worsech) Deffenbaugh (2001-current), daughter Linda Jefferies (KY), sister Darlene (David) Mai (OR), 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Iris, daughter Leela and her husband Robert Kelso, and brother Leon.
A memorial is scheduled at Keizer Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Lionel’s name to Honor Flight. Donations can be made at https://www.honorflight.org/
