The Generator Presents Creative Vision & Opportunity to Yerington Rotary

YERINGTON, Nev. — Representatives from The Generator, a non-profit community makerspace and art incubator based in Reno, addressed the Rotary Club of Yerington during their regular dinner meeting on Tuesday evening, September 15.

Guest speakers Jerry Snyder and Sierra Scott delivered a presentation detailing The Generator’s mission, its role in empowering local artists, and its expanding efforts to provide hands-on educational programming for youth.

The Generator operates as an inclusive, 501(c)(3) non-profit facility designed to give community members access to tools, workspaces, and creative mentorship that might otherwise be out of reach. During the presentation, Snyder highlighted how the organization serves as an active hub for the regional arts community, providing specialized fabrication equipment, wood and metal shops, textiles, and digital tech labs for creative projects of all sizes.

In addition to serving established artists and builders, the presentation underscored The Generator’s commitment to youth and educational programs. Snyder and Scott discussed how their youth initiatives foster problem-solving, artistic expression, and technical skills through structured workshops, STEAM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning, and collaborative projects.

“It’s important to recognize that talent can come from anywhere” said Snyder.

A common theme regarding youth opportunities was the belief that providing youth with early access to creative tools and mentorship helps build confidence, innovation, and community connection.

Members of the Yerington Rotary Club engaged in a question-and-answer session following the presentation, exploring potential avenues for future community collaboration, youth involvement, and artistic outreach.
