Dicutta Youth Unity WINS Pesa Namanedu Award from Nevada Department of Education

The Nevada Department of Education wrote: “We proudly honor the Dicutta United Tribal Youth for their leadership, teamwork, and positive impact within their community. Through their efforts, they have inspired peers, supported fellow youth, and contributed to the growth and well-being of their Tribal Community.

“Their dedication and spirit serve as an example to others, leaving a lasting impression. We celebrate their achievements and sincerely appreciate the meaningful difference they continue to make.”

The Pesa Namanedu Award is named for the Northern Paiute phrase: “Something that has been done well.”

Dicutta Youth Unity council members proclaimed: “We couldn’t have done it without Dawna Jackson, Belinda Hooper, Sara Twiss, and the rest of the Education Department! And of course a special shout out to Saundra Mitrovich!”

Dicutta Unity is composed of youth from the Walker River Paiute Tribe & Yerington Paiute. In December of 2025, members of Dicutta Unity elected their council:
