Mason Valley NV – February 27, 2026
Twelve months ago, Saturday, February 15, 2025 was a bright but slightly overcast day where State Route 339 runs between the Snyder Ranch and Sunnygrove. Lyon County Dispatch toned a late morning page for emergency medical response for a 2 vehicle head-on collision.

This tragic collision forever altered the lives of the family and friends of Justin Beltran, 24, and Jena Ortiz, 23.
Both Battle Born Medevac and Careflight provided advanced life support and air transportation for Justin and Jena to Renown for trauma care.
Nevada State Police determined that a northbound 2018 Chrysler driven by area local Olivia Rose Plummer crossed into the southbound lane and hit a 2017 Honda with Justin & Jena inside.
Jason’s injuries left him with no neurological function, and he remained on life support until Sunday, when his organs were donated. His family and friends were by his side when Renown physicians performed his Honor Walk.
On Monday, after several surgeries and resuscitations, Jena passed away from her injuries. Surrounded by her family and friends at Renown, Jena’s Honor Walk took place as she, too, chose to donate her organs.
The Honor Walks for Jason & Jena offered a deeply moving way for their families & friends to say a final goodbye. Jason & Jena’s Honor Walks also allowed their doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals an opportunity to pay their final respects, acknowledge the patients’ heroism in donating organs and offer hope to other patients needing organ transplants.
Two families continue to grieve the unimaginable loss of their loved ones in a tragedy that could have been prevented.

The Beltran & Ortiz Families attended sentencing for Olivia Plummer in Yerington on October 16, 2025 as she was sentenced to 1 year in jail. The families were shocked to learn that 87 days later Olivia was released from jail on January 10, 2026. Families of Justin Beltran & Jena Ortiz believe an incomplete investigation (including lack of thorough toxicology testing for marijuana/alcohol) appears to have contributed to eventual reduced charges for Plummer.
Jena-Marie Ortiz’s parents, Maria & Mario Ortiz, wrote to the Lyon County District Attorney in 2026:

From Helen Romero, Justin’s Grandmother, 2026:

A letter to the Lyon County District Attorney in September 2025 from Jena-Marie’s mother, prior to sentencing:

Just 12 months after this tragedy, the families of Jena-Marie Ortiz and Justin Joseph Beltran find that their wounds of grief have been re-opened with their perceived injustice of the Lyon County Justice System and it’s representatives.
Justin Joseph Beltran and Jena-Marie Ortiz were deeply cherished by their family and friends, who find solace in keeping their memory alive.
