Happy Friday Yerington!

I hope you are all enjoying cooler temperatures over the past week.

In case you missed it, I wanted to share that on October 13, 2025, your Yerington City Council recognized two outstanding members of our Yerington Police Department for their years of service.

Sergeant Brandon Coombs, for 15 years, and Helen Sturtevant, for an incredible 25 years! These two are staples within our organization and we are very thankful for their years of dedication. It’s difficult to find the words that truly express the amount gratitude I have for these two and their commitment to the success of Yerington. I hope that my humble vocabulary can do them justice. During the presentation of their awards, I also included a photo of each of them from the present day, and an older photo for some fun. Both were great sports and had some fun during the presentation. Again, I’d like to say THANK YOU to each of you for your loyal service to Yerington.

Speaking of Yerington Police Department, I’m happy to report that YPD has joined forces with Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies on a Pedestrian Safety Campaign. This campaign is a concentrated effort to improve pedestrian safety in crosswalks & intersections, and crack down on distracted driving.

While the official campaign has a start and end date I won’t share those here, because these are efforts that will continue year round, regardless of the campaign. Our safety standards don’t change according to a calendar. I’m sure all agencies will agree with this mindset.

Another update in regards to public safety; Please mark your calendar for November 12 at 5:30 p.m. There will be a public meeting at City Hall regarding OHV regulations.

Why? Glad you ask.

As a City, we are working diligently on plans for outdoor recreation and the ability to turn recreation into tourism dollars. In fact, when you look at states with success in capturing tourism dollars via outdoor recreation, they all advertise things Yerington has to offer. Fishing, bike riding, camping, night skies, OHV/ATV, agriculture, etc. With that said, before we begin any type of campaign to attract a certain market, we want to ensure that we have common sense regulations to control and maintain the safety standards we expect in our community. If you’d like to hear more about this, or offer input in the conversation, please plan to attend. Again, that’s November 12, 5:30 p.m.

Public Works crew spent much of their week making improvements to water systems, specifically in the Whispering River area, as well as laying the new surface down on the pickleball courts. The pickleball courts are not complete and ready just yet- we still need to lay the blue court surface, then boundary lines and hang nets. After that, we just need you and your friends to grab your paddles and get busy! While the pickleball side of the courts is looking fresh and new (because it is), the tennis court side leaves a lot to be desired. I am in discussion with some groups to try and improve this item with our limited funds. Stay tuned for updates.

You’ve heard me mention in previous updates that we are nearing the completion of our California Well project. Unfortunately, I’m sad to report that installation hit a snag with some parts that were not ready in time, and thus has set our completion date back. City staff held a meeting with project managers and contractors earlier this week to ensure we adjust accordingly and keep our momentum towards completion. I hope to have a new ETA for completion very soon.

I want to mention our Trunk or Treat event is happening next Thursday, October 30 at City Hall. We have a ton of sign ups and are looking forward to a wonderful event from 3-5 p.m.

Trick or Treating from door to door is expected on Halloween itself, Friday, October 31 and recommended hours are from 6-8 p.m.

Our next City Council meeting is this coming Monday, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. If you’re available to attend or participate on zoom, I always welcome your feedback.

Have a wonderful night, and as always, if you would like to reach out directly to me I’ll list my contact information below.

Thank you,

Jerry Bryant
