For the second time in two months, the Veterinarian from Friends of St. Francis and her husband, a Naval Veteran, have come to Yerington, Nevada to provide vaccinations, microchipping, and wellness checks for dogs & cats. The Naval Veteran checks the patients in, and the Veterinarian with her assisting intern take care of the pets!

Several months ago Jane Montalbano, proprietor of the Red Rooster Emporium on Yerington’s Main Street began contacting veterinarians to request services for the Mason Valley Community. After numerous denials from regional vets, the Friends of St. Francis said, “Yes!” Jane expressed that she was, “over the moon!” that the FSF Vet had agreed to provide services. The Friends of St. Francis attained a business license through the City of Yerington and held their first clinic in June at the Dini’s Lucky Club parking lot, where Dini’s provided a venue with electricity and running water (THANK YOU TO DINI’S!). The 1st clinic was highly successful, with every appointment filled.
The appointments on the Sunday, July 6th Clinic were also filled, with Blue Bird Properties providing the venue at their comfortable air conditioned Southwood club house. (THANK YOU BLUE BIRD & Manager Ann Marie Evans!)

The Yerington Veterinary Clinics are arranged for success: Jane Montalbano & her daughter set a clinic date with Friends of St. Francis, secure a volunteered community venue, then communicate this information to the community through social media & Pizen Switch Times online news.
Appointments are secured when someone goes to the Red Rooster Emporium at 37 N. Main Street in Yerington to register & schedule their appointment, and place a $20 deposit that is credited toward their bill. The Veterinarian sees dogs in the morning, and cats in the afternoons.

Jane Montalbano is now seeking a “sterile room” availability locally, so that Friends of St. Francis could conduct spay & neuter clinics.
It’s been a few years since the Greenfield Veterinary Clinic closed in Yerington. The clinic is still for sale.
Perhaps the City of Yerington could consider purchasing the Greenfield Vet Clinic facility and convert it into the Yerington Animal Shelter with vaccination, spay & neuter services for cats & dogs. This could be a win/win solution for Yerington’s feral cat challenges that 2 non-profit groups continue to try to address: ARGONN Animal Rescue Group of Northern Nevada and Mayke Kranenbarg-Jenkins’ Yerington Cats Group. YAPS Yerington Animal Protection Society is another important local organization. This would also give the City of Yerington an animal shelter that we could really be proud of!
A BIG THANK YOU to Jane Montalbano & her daughter for finding & making arrangements with the Friends of St. Francis to bring their services to our community. Thank you to Friends of St. Francis (who have a mobile clinic specializing in at-home pet euthanasia services). And thank you again to Blue Bird Properties and Dini’s Lucky Club for hosting the clinics!
It takes a village, and “Oh what a village Yerington has!”
