Heavy Smoke Drifting Over Northwest Mason Valley from Gardnerville’s Conner Fire: June 20, 2025

On Friday 6.20.25 at 2:50pm Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Protection District announced: “The smoke coming into Mason Valley is from the wildland fire in Gardnerville and is no threat to Mason Valley. Please do not call in the smoke.”

The Nevada Appeal reported that, “East Fork firefighters responded to a structure fire on Conner Way at 1:46 a.m. According to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch the fire spread into the mountains north of the community around 4:10 a.m.”

This is a photo of the Conner Fire taken at 3:07pm from Minden 1 camera alertwildfire.org pointing east toward the fire in the Pine Nut Mountains.

The Pine Nut Mountains (which are generally a north to south range) separate Gardnerville/Carson Valley from Smith Valley. The Singatse Mountains (also a north to south range) separate Smith Valley from Mason Valley.

Because of high winds blowing generally from the southwest toward the northeast, Mason Valley residents are seeing heavy smoke coming in over Weed Heights from the direction of Smith Valley.

Nancy Gazanno took these photos at 2:45pm from near the Lyon County Fairgrounds pointing toward Weed Heights:

This photo is taken from Rockland Peak in Pine Grove (southern Mason Valley) looking North into Mason Valley at 3:09pm then at 5:49pm. The wind had shaped the smoke into gray waves:

These 2 photos are taken from Singatse Peak (west side of Mason Valley) pointing east toward Mason Valley at 3:02pm.

This photo is from Bald Mountain (which is in the Pine Nut Mountains, NOT the one in the Wassuks) north of Topaz pointing North toward the Conner Fire at 3:04pm.

Strong winds are likely to continue through the rest of Friday, making fire suppression challenging for the Emergency Crews on the Conner Fire.
