Obituary for Robert Jeffery ‘Jeff’ Moxley: December 19, 1961 to March 9, 2025

“Jeff”, Robert Jeffery Moxley, passed at age 63, on Sunday March 9th 2025, in Carson-Tahoe Hospital, surrounded by his family. Jeff is survived by his wife Robin Moxley, children Alisha Brown (Bryan Brown), Carrie McCreary (Daniel McCreary), and Colton Moxley (Stefanie Moxley); Grandchildren Truet Brown, Hayden Andersen (Clint Andersen), Jacob McCreary, and Myles Moxley; and siblings Wade Moxley (Martina Moxley) and Tammy Clanton.

Jeff was born on December 19, 1961, in Bridgeport, California to Jim and Leona Moxley. Jim worked for Snyder Ranch, in Yerington, Nevada and would summer cattle in Bridgeport. The family moved to Bishop, California when Jeff was very young.

Jeff spent summers with his ‘Grammar’ (Ramona Mayginnes), in Yerington and also spent much time with his Uncle “Bud” Jack and Aunt Betty Adams’ ranch in Smith Valley, Nevada, where he learned to cowboy.

He graduated Bishop Union High School in 1980. After graduating, he spent a couple of years working at Union Carbide’s Pine Creek Tungsten mine. He then went to work for Brown’s Supply for about 5 years where he learned to operate heavy equipment. After that, he joined CalTrans where he worked for over 30 years.

He and Robin got together in 1982 and married in 1988. They raised Alisha, Carrie and Colton to love the western lifestyle, raising horses and livestock, growing alfalfa, camping, hunting, playing sports and exploring the Whites and Sierra mountains.

Jeff retired from CalTrans in 2020. In 2023, he and Robin bought a cattle ranch in Yerington to be closer to family. They sold their ranch in Bishop and moved to Yerington in 2024. Jeff spent much time with family in the 10 months before his unexpected passing.

Jeff was well known to be able to build or work on anything. He was a mechanic, welder, fabricator, cowboy and hay farmer. He was very artistic, and animal lover, a great dancer, a very hard worker, and above all else – an epic storyteller.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life in Yerington on May 10th.
