Obituary for Dennis James Penner: August 14,1944 to February 13, 2025

Dennis James Penner, aged 80, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Yerington, Nevada. He was born on August 14, 1944, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Earl and Martha (Marvin) Penner.

Dennis was a retired truck driver and a proud Navy Vietnam Veteran. During his service in the Navy, he received numerous awards, including Sailor of the Month. He was often referred to as a man who didn’t know the word “quit” and would see every project from start to finish. As stated in his performance review from his Lieutenant Commander in 1965, “Penner’s conduct is always above reproach; he is an inspiration to his shipmates. Penner’s chronic cheerfulness and energetic approach to any task are infectious and a boon to the morale of the entire division.”

This dedication and perseverance carried over into his career as a truck driver, where he achieved an impressive milestone of 7 million miles of safe driving.

Dennis was one of a kind—a loving and caring father, grandfather, great grandfather, a sincere friend, and a big cheerleader for those around him. He provided guidance and words of wisdom, always ready to support and uplift others. Dennis also enjoyed rebuilding classic cars and was an asset to the car clubs he actively participated in, often showcasing his work at shows.

Dennis is survived by his son, Richard A. Penner, and daughter-in-law, Deanna Penner, of Manteca, CA; his daughter, Tammy L. Martin, and son-in-law, Alouis F. Martin, of Newman, CA; his daughter, Tracey L. Penner, of Highlands Ranch, CO; his daughter, Christine M. Powell, and son-in-law, Philip J. Powell, of Westminster, CO; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dogs, Andy and Coko.

A memorial service will be held in late spring in Dayton, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to  Victory Junction  in Dennis’s memory.  Family and friends are invited to sign his online guest book at www.FRFH.net
