In Loving Memory of Karen Lou Tom Miller : August 1, 1945 to August 22, 2024

KAREN LOU TOM MILLER, a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at her home in Schurz, Nevada on the Walker River Paiute Reservation at the age of 79 years.

Karen was born to Henry Tom and Christine Giomi Tom on August 1, 1945, in the old Bureau of Indian Affairs Hospital in Schurz, Nevada. Karen was a member of the Walker River Paiute Tribe she was employed with the Indian Health Service as an Administrator for many years until she retired. She enjoyed serving her community in many different roles. She loved to cheer on all her little honeys in every sport or event they chose to do.

Karen is survived by her daughters, Kelly Miller Estep and Raynell Miller. Her sister Sandra Tom Hicks and brothers Gordon Tom and Keith “Kippy” Tom. Grandchildren Hattie Maiou Emm, Bindee Wahgnee Crutcher, Heidi Celestine Emm, Jesse Hank Landis Ponca and EeDua Bodie Miller. Great-Granddaughters Amaree Maiou Savage, Nina Mariella Hernandez and Great-Grandsons Zayne Lewis Savage, Hayes Lewis Savage and Ian Thomas Hernandez. Karen was preceded in death by her father Henry Tom, mother Christine Tom, siblings Robert Benton, Russell Tom, Bruce Tom and her husband Irwin Landis Miller and her son NiDua Mark Landis Miller.

Karen’s service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 11am in the Tribal Gymnasium on the Walker River Paiute Reservation in Schurz, Nevada. Burial to follow at the Schurz Indian Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to sign her online guest book at www.FRFH.net
